Over the weekend our friends at Zeal Optics put on a fun event in Boulder, Colorado to kick off the winter season. Zeal supports athletes in both skiing and snowboarding so why not pull the two together and have fun with this epic rivalry amongst snow shredders. Icelantic was stoked to be a part of this event by supporting the cause of protecting our winter and showcasing our latest gear. It was also great to kick it with our buddies at Zeal Optics, Freeskier, and to be surrounded by a great group of supporters. The event 'Skiers vs. Snowboarders' revolved around a head to head premier of two of the hottest new ski and snowboard films 'The Recruitment' by Superproof Inc. and 'Heavy Mental' by Absinthe Films. Icelantic was proud to be involved and have our very own Josh Stack as one of the star athletes in the ski film 'The Recruitment' by Superproof Inc. 'The Recruitment' was an incredibly cinematic and artistic ski movie with a mild plot. The film juxtaposed a lot of dark and light content by showing anything from graphic violence to the beauty of nature and the outdoors. Both the skiing and editing were extremely progressive earning a boisterous reaction from the crowd. Between films there were sumo battles between professional skier Mike Henitiuk vs. professional snowboarder Austen Sweetin as well as from snow sports media figures like Grant Savage from Freeskier Magazine and Snowboard Magazine. The event raffled off ski passes to Eldora, Woodward and Copper Mountain and proceeds will benefit the charity Protect our Winters. Protect Our Winters is a group that works to lobby congress on the economic benefit of winter, how large the ski and snowboard industry is and how climate change is affecting those industries everywhere. Thanks for another awesome event Zeal Optics and Boulder Theatre!!
