The Idaho mountains caught my attention a few summers ago, and this winter I felt a magnetic pull to the majestic Sawtooth Range. Imagine the mountains of Patagonia and Alaska had a baby… that’s the Sawthooths in my mind. The mountain ranges surrounding Sun Valley, Idaho have accumulated a snowpack ranking as the third deepest on record which means many zones that are normally un-ridable have been dubbed the green light. Early season, we ticked off laps in the burn, Grumpy’s and Hourglass along the side-country of Sun Valley Resort. While the rare depths of the Wood River powder was a treat, my gut was yearning for the rugged spires of the Sawtooth backcountry. Skiing there is relatively remote, takes a strong physical effort and quality ski partners. Lucky for me, I’ve been adventuring with Sun Valley local backcountry skier/sledder extraordinaire, Jeremy Lato with all the insider beta on the area. This blog takes you along my ski adventures to Boyscout, Sickle, Gun Barrel, Outer Space and Petzholdt Couloirs, and the elusive North East face of Hortsmann Peak, “The Shield.” I rode the Nomad Lite 105 ski providing the freeride style on the descent with incredible light weight to fly up the skin track.

Last week Sasha Motivala and I drove up to Canada from Jackson, with goals to ski Kicking Horse, Revelstoke and a little backcountry with sleds. It was amazing. We got good snow the day we drove in and refills all week.
Icelantic athlete Rachel Croft sees the top of another FWQ podium. This win in Taos currently lands her in first place on the Freeride World Qualifier tour. If you're wondering what skis she shreds on they're Nomad 125's.
Stay tuned as Rachel continues her competition journey hopefully making her way on to the World Tour. Way to go Rachel, keep up the strong work.
Another successful week of ski testing down and another epic Freeskier Fest in the books. This year Freeskier Magazine changed up the venue for their annual Freeskier Fest ski test. The elite squad of testers and ski brands came together this past week with the staffers from the magazine at Snowbird for a rowdy week of celebrating and testing and reviewing the skis of the future.
Here's a little recap video of the final runs from this year's Freeskier Fest once the work is done and the testers "party shred" their way to glory with a human slalom!

Mark Morris is a 5th generation Coloradan that truly fell in love with freeskiing on a heli-trip in Alaska, just after his 13th birthday. Coincidentally, he found a passion for acoustic music at the same time, and has been motived to follow both of these passions his whole life.
